All instruments are written in concert pitch with the exception of Piccolo (an octave higher), Contrabassoon and Contrabass (an octave lower), and Glockenspiel (two octaves higher.)

This work is a symphony, not a concerto. The solo cello and four vocal soloists should be given equal prominence in their visual placement. Creative staging choices are encouraged. The whisperers (sussurratori) can be positioned in various locations in the theatre to enhance the immersive experience for the audience.

Please note: All performers, including soloists, should wear conservative dark clothing befitting the solemn nature of this work.
